Creating a legacy table BI report
Who is this article for?
Users who want to learn about Classic BI reporting
No elevated permissions are required. Basic JasperSoft knowledge is helpful.
Legacy table reports are generated through a third-party tool called JasperSoft. This tool presents an opportunity to create a table that contains child-level information often displayed in a record as a grid, tags, or cards.
To access this JasperSoft tool, begin by searching for records and applying filters using the Ideagen BI filters on the top of each screen. Once the correct set of records has been set, select Other from the Chart display option in the upper right-hand corner.
The legacy table report is a display table like the standard Table search report, but it can be expanded to include child-level data. Whenever possible, use the table view as it supports grouping and aggregation, and offers better performance for large data sets.
Selecting and grouping fields
Header-level and the chosen child-level fields are selected from the Fields and Measures panels on the left-hand side of the screen.
- To add a field to a report, double-click the chosen Field or Measure.
- Drag and drop any Field to the Group box, as needed.
- To remove a Field from a report, click the "x" next to the field name.
- Adjust the order of the Fields (from left to right) by dragging and dropping them within the Columns and Groups boxes.
- When building a report, drill into the underlying data object directly from the report. To enable this, add the
View/Editfield to the Columns box. This field can only be used in Table report.
Linking a report to objects
Other Visualizations can include interactive links that allow users direct access to additional object information when the View/Edit field is included in the report. Standard search reports such as Table Reports use the Identifier field.
- The report can be configured to display the group and overall totals by choosing an available option from the gear button.
- By default, it will be added to the Columns box.
Managing the search row count
If the results of a Condition Report is 500 rows long, adding the child-level Trend Codes to the search will dramatically increase the row count. If each condition report has two trending codes, the reports row count would increase to 1,500 rows.
Continuous improvement of BI Reporting tools
The JasperSoft reporting tool represents the "Report" option in the classic user interface. This tool is being integrated into the Ideagen Platform to support child-level reporting. Ideagen has already released many of the JasperSoft features, such as charts and report grouping, into native BI search and filters. Additional support for child-level reporting will be introduced in future releases.
