Customizing toolbar buttons
Who is this article for?
Administrators and Module Developers who want to generate Toolbar menu buttons.
Defined responsibilities and elevated access required.
Toolbar buttons can contain one or more links to various Dashboard Elements such as reports, dashboards, external URLs, specific objects, or create new buttons. Toolbar buttons are typically grouped by common use.
Toolbar menu buttons are displayed to the right of the Create New button.
Administrators can create up to five (5) toolbar buttons.
To create a Toolbar button:
- Click Add Toolbar Button from the Toolbar Buttons menu of the main Components screen
- Enter a Button Name
- If a button contains only one link the name of the button will be the name of the one link.
- Button names can be up to 150 characters, including spaces.
- Select the desired Element Type
- Select or enter the needed information in the area below Element Types
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 as many times as are needed
- If needed, adjust the display order of the links within the Toolbar Button by dragging and sorting the links in the preview window or the Items Included in the Toolbar Button list on the left.
- The order of all Toolbar buttons can be modified by dragging them on the Toolbar Buttons menu of the main Components screen
- Click Save
While toolbar buttons and the information within their dropdown menus are visible on every dashboard for all users, similar to a Create New button menu, users must possess the appropriate roles and corresponding reporting authorities to access, view, or complete the information or actions associated with the toolbar menu links.
Create links to internal web pages
A common Toolbar Button is to provide users easy access to internal web pages (URLs), such as training pages.
Test in UAT first
It is recommended that admins create and test buttons in their UAT area, prior to creating them in production.
