Crosstab reports are a highly effective method for summarizing data across diverse fields. They can be quite helpful when looking at data from various viewpoints, especially over time. Consequently, crosstab reports represent an excellent option for individuals aiming to explore complex datasets and identify trends or patterns.
There are several noteworthy features of crosstab reports that set them apart from traditional table reports. They can present a large amount of information in a more digestible format. This compactness enhances readability and facilitates quicker insights.
In a crosstab report, the arrangement of data is defined by the columns and rows, which specify different properties of the data being analyzed. This structure allows for a flexible approach to data analysis, as multiple fields can be incorporated into both the columns and rows. This feature allows for nested analysis, enabling you to delve into the data and uncover relationships and insights at various levels of detail.
The cells within a crosstab report contain summarized measures that provide a quick reference to the data points of interest. One of the most common measures in these reports is the 'Count' measure. This measure is particularly useful for populating the cells, as it makes it easy to interpret and analyze.
Date fields are not summarized by default. If desired, date fields can be summarized by right clicking the date field in the Columns or Rows box, then selecting 'Change Grouping' and the desired summarization level.
Changing the left to right order of the fields in your rows provides a whole new way to view and analyze your data. In this example the first summarization level is Event Code, rather than Significance Level.
It is not necessary to always use date fields. The following example shows the number of records created for each Event Code, by Significance Level.
You can also filter to the Top N or Bottom N values by right-clicking on the column header and choosing the appropriate option.
