Overview

The Module Builder in-person training course gives participants a working, hands-on understanding of Module Builder the tool used to configure applications on the Ideagen EHSQ Platform.

Over five days, learners build several modules from the ground up against a sample requirements document, progressing from field and screen configuration through workflow, DXL rules, and role-based security. Along the way, the course surfaces the best practices and common design patterns experienced module developers rely on, as well as the gotchas that typically trip up new developers such as non-obvious rule execution order, workflow state edge cases, and security scoping mistakes etc.

By the end of the course, learners will have a complete, working module set built from scratch, and the practical fluency to build, troubleshoot, and extend existing modules on their own.

Prerequisites

This is a technically advanced course. While formal programming experience is not mandatory, participants should meet the following requirements:

• Working knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL), including tables, views, and join operations
• Successful completion of all 1000 and 2000 level courses in the Ideagen curriculum
• Organization must maintain an active Gold Level support plan to ensure access to technical assistance, implementation guidance, and ongoing troubleshooting support
• To develop custom modules users must have a named module developer license

Objectives

Foundations

1. Demonstrate understanding of relational database concepts: tables, views, column types, and joins  and how object tables relate to module levels and fields.
2. Identify the elements of a module and how they interact with the platform.
3. Apply the SQA process, including revision control, backups, and required documentation procedures.
4. Develop implementation requirements from customer needs, applying configuration best practices.
5. Use module development tools: import, export, module tools, cross-module functions within Module Builder.

Building a Module

6. Create new modules from scratch and from templates.
7. Build header fields and child levels/fields in a module.
8. Define field, level, and module properties and conditional behaviors.
9. Create efficient, validated, and documented DXL.
10. Design workflow, including steps, tasks, skip logic, and rollback restrictions.
11. Apply dirty objects and scheduled batch processing.

User Experience & Design Patterns

12. Apply user experience best practices: screen organization, help text, on-screen instruction, and search/reporting features.
13. Implement configuration design patterns and best practices.
14. Convert modules to, or implement features of, the Miramar user interface.

Platform Tools, Security & Integration

15. Use platform tools such as data import and query builder.
16. Solve configuration issues through troubleshooting, resolution, testing, and documentation.
17. Apply security mechanisms: reporting authorities, roles, record access control, and assignees.
18. Design, build, test, and deploy object prints and business intelligence reports.
19. Describe interactions with external systems through REST API interfaces.
20. Implement and modify Product modules, including integrated behaviors and integrated reference data.
21. Implement Ideagen-AI support.

Additional objectives covered as time permits

22. Implement internationalization.
23. Design, build, test, and deploy SSRS reports.
24. Implement support for mobile applications through module configuration.

Assessment

At the conclusion of the course, participants will complete two distinct assessment components:

• Written assessment: A multiple-choice examination administered during the class session
• Practical assessment: A hands-on exercise to be completed within three weeks of course completion

Participants must achieve a minimum score of 90% or higher by the second attempt to successfully complete the certification requirements.
