Creating model templates
Who is this article for?
Administrators who want to create a model template from a module
The Administrators role must have the Create and Manage Model Objects property
A Model template is used to generate objects that are similar in nature. When a Model template of a module is created field values are pre-populated allowing users to have a quick and convenient way of creating certain classes of common objects. These templated models can be added as a component to dashboards or Create New buttons can be used as shortcuts.
Special Role Properties Required
To create a Model template a user must have an Administrative role that has been granted access toCreate and manage model (i.e., template) objectsas a Module Role and Property in the module definition.
To create a Model Template, users select Create New. From this list, there will be an option to select the Model (i.e., Inspections) or the Model module (i.e., Inspections module.)
Calculations in Template Model Objects
By default, field calculations do not run when creating a model. This behavior can be set on a field-by-field basis within Module Builder by enabling the field propertyCalculation Models. Therefore, it may be necessary to confirm that the Reporting Authority has been properly set up to save the records. To do this, enable theDebug modeunder the Troubleshooting tab, set the Reporting Authority, and then convert back toUser mode.
In the module, set all the details that should be included in the new template such as type, source, assignee, etc. Saving these details will create the new templated version of the Model.
The Model templated version of the module will need a new title. To rename the template select Options, choose Template, give the Template a new name, and save. To see this change refresh by logging out and back in.
Renaming a Template
Once a template has been given a name, the only person who can rename the template is the original imitator. Other Administrators can make changes to the settings but cannot rename the object.
Model Attributes
In the past Model Attributes were used to limit access to a record based on set parameters. While this is still visible, the functionality has been deprecated. For more information on these settings, please consult a Technical Account Manager (TAM).
The most common use of a template is to create a new record. This new record can be created under Create New and then Templates at the bottom of the pop-up screen. In the example above of an Inspection, one of the Inspection templates might be called Safety Inspection while another template is called Equipment Inspection. By selecting the new template, pre-populated fields will improve accuracy and simplify repetitive details of a record.
Under the Create New button, a model shortcut button may be incorporated into the menu as a replacement for a new object shortcut button. This shortcut will enable users to promptly initiate, submit, and save a model template. Additionally, users may select Return to navigate back to the main object.ct.
Admins who create a model are also able to search for models by type. For instance, a search for Inspections will yield a list of Inspection records. Conversely, a search for Inspections using a Search Models filter will generate a list of Inspection Models (templates), such as Safety or Equipment.
