Creating model templates
Who is this article for?
Enterprise or Decani administrators who want to create a model template from a module
Administrator role is required. Create and Manage Model Objects property is required.
Model templates standardize record creation by pre-populating commonly used fields. This helps improve accuracy, reduce manual effort, and ensure consistency across records.
Templates are particularly useful when creating similar records repeatedly, as they streamline the process and reduce the risk of missing required information.
This article explains how to create model templates within your platform.
Configuring model templates
Access permissions
To create a model template, the administrator must be assigned the Create and Manage Model Objects property.
To assign the property:
- Navigate to the Module builder.
- Switch to the Access tab.
- Add the property.
Field calculations
By default, field calculations do not run when creating a module model template. This behavior is configured on a field-by-field basis in Module Builder by enabling the Calculation Models field property.
Creating a model template
To create a model template:
- Navigate to the Create New list of modules.
- Select the Module model.
For example, if the module is Supply Items select the module model Supply Items Model. - Complete all fields that should be pre-populated:
- Type
- Source
- Assignee
- Click Save.
This will create a new model template version of the module. The template version requires a unique name.
Reporting authority
In some cases, you may need to confirm that the reporting authority is correctly assigned before saving records.
To confirm this:
- Enable Debug mode.
- Go to the Troubleshooting tab.
- Set the reporting authority.
- Switch back to User mode.
Renaming a model template
After a template has been named, only the original model template owner can rename it. Other administrators can edit the template but cannot rename it.
To rename the template:
- Select Options.
- Select Template.
- Enter a new name.
- Select Save.
To see the update, sign out and sign back in.
Model attributes
Model attributes were previously used to restrict access to records based on defined parameters. While still visible, this functionality is deprecated. For more information, contact your Customer Success Manager.
Using model templates
Once a model template has been established, an administrator can create a model template Component and utilize it as a Create New button. This button can be used as a standard object shortcut, enabling users to efficiently initiate, complete, and save records using the template.
For example, a supply item template might be named Supply Item – Delivery Boxes, while another might be Packing Supplies. Selecting a template pre-populates fields, improving accuracy and reducing repetitive data entry.
Model templates can also be added to toolbar buttons and dashboard components.
Searching for a model templates
Admins who create a model template are also able to search for models by type.
For example, a search for Inspections will produce a list of Inspection records. Conversely, a search for Supply Items using a Search Models filter will generate a list of Supply Item model templates, such as Delivery Boxes or Packing Supplies.
